1. Why is Silk duvet?

·          Silk fiber is known for its high luster. It shimmers, but it is not slippery and good for silk beddings products, very luxury and magic.

·          Silk fiber is very strong when reeled because the fibroin is spit by the worm in one long strand between 275 and 1640 yards (250 and 1500 meters). There are 1760 yards in a mile. Thus silk duvet is very flexible and durable.

·          Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, so a silk duvet may be considered a much healthier alternative to feather and down duvet for asthma sufferers.

·        Silk is natural and 'breathable', so help regulate your body temperature by trapping air next to your skin to keep you warm in winter, and drawing it away from your body to keep you cool in summer. Furthermore, the criss-cross layers of the floss further enhance the properties of ventilation and water permeability that are natural to silk, resulting in a much more comfortable and restful night's sleep.

·         Silk is wonderfully soft and lightweight, is about 1/3~1/2 weight of down comforter to get the same warm. so a silk-filled duvet is the ideal choice for sufferers of arthritis and asthma and those for whom heavy bedding may cause discomfort.

·          Silk floss is so fine that a silk-filled duvet has the exceptional ability to drape gently around you body and over the sides of the bed.

·          Silk floss can keep stable Humidity, 1.5 times of Cotton fibers. Can keep our body dry air during the sleep.

·         Unlike feathers and down, silk as a duvet filling, does not require box stitching in order to be evenly distributed and eliminate cold spots. It may therefore be argued that a silk duvet provides warmth more evenly than a feather and down duvet. Silk contains many amino acids in common with the human body. Therefore, though not medically proven, silk is believed to provide many health promoting properties, such as activating skin cells and helping prevent vascular sclerosis.

·          Silk duvets rarely require cleaning as they are naturally dust-mite free. Simply air them outside on a sunny day to freshen them up.

3. How is Beijing Natural Home Textile handmade Silk duvets produced?

The raw material of our duvet – pure and natural silk, is a protein fiber harvested from the cocoon of the silkworms, which feed on clean, nutritious and insecticide-free mulberry leaves. Our factory is located in the east coast, the base of cocoons of China.

At about 35 days old, the silkworms become 10,000 times heavier in weight and 500 times bigger in size. They start to spit a mile long filament which is smooth, supple, lustrous and strong, enclosing itself in a cocoon. Among thousands and millions of cocoons, the best quality ones are carefully selected to serve as the raw material of our duvets.

The cocoons are then cleaned in pure underground water, steamed and submerged in boiling water to soften, and one by one, stretched by hand evenly and carefully to form large sheets of silk. Hundreds of such silk sheets are hand layered together, and finally form the soft, light and warm silk battings which will not bunch or shift. It takes about 6000 best quality cocoons to make a king size duvet.

This is the process coming down from hundreds of years ago. No bleach, no machines, no chemical additives, we strongly believe that a 100% natural hand-made duvet (comforter) will give you the luxury and sweet sleep that everyone is dreaming about.

4. How to clean and care the silk duvet and silk bed linen?

·
For Silk Duvet and Silk pillows:

How to wash?

Usually wash means wash the duvet cover instead of duvet itself. It is no need to wash either by hand or machine for the duvet. If it is cleaned by water, the duvet will become less soft and fluffy. Only by airing under sun and patting can you restore the duvets’ original feature.

In the event of a spillage or stain, you only need use a warm damp cloth with gentle soap to clean small areas of your duvet. Should your duvet require full cleaning, please consult a professional cleaning service.
After about 30 days of continuous use, it is recommended that the duvet be regularly aired without a duvet cover in mild sunshine for 1-2 hours. Beat it lightly to make it fluffy.

How to store?

In the transit of seasons, the silk duvet must be aired and dried and then put in dry and cool places;
The duvet must not be exposed to extra heat or strong sunlight for a long time;
The duvet must not be stored with camphor balls.
The duvet must not be topped with too much weight.

·     For Silk bedding Linen:

It is very simply to do the care of silk bedding linens, you will prolong the life of your silk linen and be able to enjoy it for many years to come by followings.

* Always wash your linen in warm, not hot water and use a suitable cleaning agent of soft and no bleach element. Bleach damages the silk fiber and will destroy silk bed linen.

* If machine washing use the silk set, or the lowest heat set. Try to place the item in a protective bag to prevent the pulling action of your washing machine which may harm the seams of your linen. A cotton pillowcase would be perfect.

* Always iron your linen when slightly damp and use a cool setting. Your linen should be ironed on the inside at all times.

* Always dry under the in mild sunshine instead of machine drying. If you do need to use a machine dryer, make sure you select a warm not hot cycle.

5. How to judge the quality of silk duvet?

·        By smell: inferior silk duvets give off a slight smell of chemicals and silkworm pupae, which will become stronger during use in more humid and warmer environments. This smell is detrimental to health, especially to those who have an allergic constitution.

·         By color: 100% natural silk floss has a soft and lustrous pearly colour; in contrast, as a result of bleaching, inferior floss looks artificially white and shiny.

·          By feel: pure silk floss feels more delicate yet less smooth than lower-grade floss, which has been treated by machines.

·        By the length of the silk filaments: The most exquisite duvets are made of long and unbroken Mulberry silk sheets, which are stretched and hand-layered one by one in a crisscross pattern. The silk is very smooth and even throughout the duvet.?In contrast, silk in machine-made duvets is usually broken. Shake the duvet quickly and, if it is made by machine, tiny dust-like fibers can be seen falling down from the duvet. If breathed in these fibers may be harmful, especially to babies and children.

·         By the flexibility of the silk filling: silk in handmade duvets is very flexible and strong. In contrast, silk in machine-made duvets is loose and fragile.

6. What are the properties of the bamboo fabric?
* Naturally Organic - bamboo is grown without pesticides or fertilisers, unlike conventional cotton which uses 25% of all the worlds' pesticides and occupies less than 10% of the agricultural land mass.
* Sustainable - Moso bamboo is one of the world¡¯s fastest growing plants, growing up to a metre in a day. Bamboo is a grass, so when you cut it the bamboo plant itregenerates quickly without the need for replanting. It grows very densely and so the yield per acre is excellent in comparison to cotton.
*  Eco-friendly - one of the most positive things about bamboo is that it absorbs 35% more carbon dioxide than equivalent stands of trees. More bamboo would help to cut the globally rising levels of carbon dioxide and help in the fight against global warming.
*  Luxuriously soft - bamboo feels like silky cashmere. It also line dries very well. Cotton towels when line dried on a windless hot day often become stiff where a bamboo towel remains soft and pliable.
* Absorbent - bamboo absorbs up to 60% more water than cotton. This makes it an excellent choice for towels and bathrobes.
*  Hypoallergenic - bamboo's organic and natural properties make it non-irritating so perfect for extra sensitive skin
*  Breathable - the porous nature of the fibre makes it breathable and extremely comfortable against the skin.
*  Thermo-regulating - keeps the wearer warm in cool weather.
